Hello World, I’m Iman.

I began my journey in the tech industry years ago by stumbling into a Quality Assurance position. After a few years gaining experience testing websites & apps I sought out a role that would be more challenging to my current skills. I re-entered the job market in search of a position that would benefit from the knowledge that I had collected over the years, but would also allow me the opportunity to grow my skills and introduce me to new technologies.

Fast-forward through a few rounds of interviews and here I am, a QA Analyst at one of the biggest video game studios in the world. I was extremely excited about this opportunity due to it being a completely new experience from the mediums I had tested in the past. Might I add, I would be working on a video game… I mean who doesn’t like video games?? The 2-week sprints coupled with big content releases called for long hours but was well worth it. After working with the company for a year, sadly my temporary contract had come to an end.

After a year at a video game studio, I had learned even more testing skills and ALOT more dynamic technologies. This exposure led me to realize that I wanted a more advanced career in tech. Not only did I want to ensure those pesky bugs were put to an end before releases, I wanted to create them [insert developer humor here]. By creating them I mean deep diving into development/deployment/cloud services. During my intensive google search for free online tutorials, I found a program called Generation USA.

Upon attending an informational session and speaking with a program rep I realized that their Jr. Cloud Practitioner program would be a great fit for me. During this 10-week boot camp style program I learned Linux, CLI, Devops, Python & AWS Services. A few weeks before our graduation we put extra emphasis on AWS since we would be taking the exam for the AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification. The program was intense to say the least but I graduated and obtained my AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification along the way.

Now that I’ve given you a bit of my backstory, allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Iman Crooks, a former meticulous Software Quality Assurance Analyst looking to be an even more meticulous Cloud Engineer. Thank you for taking the time to hear my story. I look forward to bringing you along for my exciting journey!
